The iron-ore rich Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean were used in three second-season episodes. In The Curse of Cornelius Sigan, workers are digging day and night in the caverns below Camelot’s castle, keeping poor Arthur awake. They stumble upon the tomb of an evil sorcerer, and a plot ensues.

A dear friend of Merlin Locations recently found an article on the ‘This is Gloucestershire’ website about the third season of Merlin being filmed in the Forest of Dean. Mention was made of Clements End – a new location for us location geeks. I was delighted to be contacted by Emma, who had promptly visited Clements End and taken photos. A magical and surely unique place, Puzzlewood was used in episode 111 The Labyrinth of Gedref. The episode called for a forest more mystical than usual, frequented by unicorns – and Puzzlewood certainly met and surpassed the need.
